Maplat Adopted for the “Mitaka Past & Present Map”
Maplat has been adopted for the Mitaka Past & Present Map, created by M.T. Planning Inc. — a planning and design company focused on shaping the future through ICT — in collaboration with the Mitaka Network University Promotion Organization. The project was supported by a FY2023 industry-academia-public collaborative research grant.
In Mitaka City, Tokyo, a wide variety of local information initiatives are actively underway, including regional history research through the Mitaka Whole City Museum and the Miimu eco-museum project, activities by the Mitaka City Tourism Association, projects promoting shopping district revitalization and public health, as well as astronomy and science outreach programs. These efforts are shared through apps, websites, printed materials, and other media.
Based on the concept of onko-chishin — “learning from the past to create new knowledge” — this project aimed to develop an application that brings together and introduces Mitaka’s rich collection of locally created maps and historical and cultural information. The goal was to create something anyone could easily access on a smartphone, whether as a companion for walking around the city or as a digital resource for local and lifelong learning.
M.T. Planning has said they hope to continue sharing useful information that supports everyday life in the future as well.
We encourage everyone to take a look at the beautiful and highly user-friendly Mitaka Past & Present Map.
